The International Women's Day Organizing Committee is thrilled to offer a great selection of workshops based around this year's theme - "Living, Learning & Leisure". 

 
Available Workshops for 2005

Please note that certain workshops have limited seating and that they may not be offered in all three sessions.  Workshops are available for all three sessions unless otherwise indicated in the descriptions below.

(1) Streetproofing our Kids!   This workshop will cover bullying, internet safety, dating violence, etc.  Facilitator:  Sara Smith, HRM Police (Sessions: A, C) Note:  Some openings remaining for both A and C.

(2) Do You Need to Get Organized?:   This informative and interactive seminar will guide you through the basics of organizing your home and office.  Facilitator: Jane Veldhoven, Get Organized Professional Services  (Sessions: A, B) Note:  These sessions are full; please select a different workshop.

(3) Latin Rhythms:  Groove to the beat of Latin American tunes like the Salsa, Cha Cha, Tango, etc. Facilitator: Leslie Carvery, Shake It Dance Studio (Sessions: A, B, C) Note:  Sessions B and C are filled up, please select a different workshop.

(4) Everyday Yoga & Yoga in the Workplace:   Stretching, strengthening, breathing, meditation and relaxation to optimize health and well-being in body and mind.  Facilitator:  Mandee Labelle, www.yogaheart.ca  (Session: A only)

(5) Chakra Yoga- Ancient Wisdom in the Modern World:  Simple discussion and exercises will help guide our understanding and experience of energy, union, oneness and enlightenment. Facilitator:  Mandee Labelle, www.yogaheart.ca (Session: C only)

(6) Reflexology:   Participants will learn about the benefits of foot and hand reflexology.  Facilitator:  Nancy Harrett, Common Scents (Session: A only) Note:  This session is full; please select a different workshop.

(7) Personal & Organizational Health & Balance:  This experiential, interactive session will explore a holistic framework for examining health and balance to achieve optimal health.  Facilitator: Donna Clark, Carmody, Clark & Associates (Sessions: A, B) Note:   These sessions are full; please select a different workshop.

(8) Making a Positive Impression with Email:  Find out how to create a competent, friendly   e-voice and build rapport with online readers.  Facilitator: Dawn Henwood, Write Well Communications & Coaching (Session: B only) Note:  This session is full; please select a different workshop.

(9) Wills & Estate Planning:  Have your affairs in order so that your wishes will be carried out.    Facilitator: Kim Johnson, Blois, and Nickerson & Bryson (Session: C only) Note:  This session is full.

(10) How Chiropractic Improves Women’s Health & Wellness:   Interactive lecture to focus on spinal health, weight management, menopause, menstruation, aging, fitness, nutrition, etc.  Facilitator:  Dr. Shelley-Anne Appleton (Session: A only)

(11) Smart Women Retire Rich and Happy:  Financial strategies for women retiring in the next 5 years.    Facilitators: Allison Edwards & Susan Springett, Investors Group  (Session: B only) Note: This session is full. 

(12) Put some Passion into your Financial Planning:   Financial strategies for women retiring in 10 years or more.  Facilitators: Allison Edwards & Susan Springett, Investors Group (Session: C only)

 

(13) Lunch & Learn on Trans Fats:  What are Trans Fats?  What foods contain TF?  Why are they harmful?  Lunch served at 1:00 PM; Demonstration while eating in the Atlantic Superstore Kitchen. (14) Healthy Eating and Trans Fats:  What are Trans Fats?  What foods contain TF?  Why are they harmful?  Facilitators: Jennifer Touesnard (A Session) and Anne Marie Armstrong (C Session), Atlantic Superstore (Sessions:  A, C) Note:  Sessions A & C are full. 

 

(15) Communicating in Diverse Contexts – Power of the Word:   Words can have effects on personal/work relationships; learn to recognize unacceptable terminology and ways to improve.  Facilitator:  Crystal Taylor, PWGSC (Session: A only) Note:  This session is full; please select a different workshop.

(16) Make the Choice – Tap into your Potential in Times of Change:  Change can promise innovation, creativity, advancement or it can be paralyzing.  Reflect on change and shape your own future.   Facilitator:  Crystal Taylor, PWGSC  (Session: B only) Note:  This session is full; please select a different workshop.

(17) Make Mental Health Matter:   Learn to recognize stress and depression in order to maintain good mental health and establish practices for your well-being.  Facilitator:  Carol Tooton, Canadian Mental Health Association (Sessions: B only) Note:  This session is full; please select a different workshop.

 

(18) Planning for Retirement:  Preparing emotionally, physically and financially.  Facilitator: Darlene Higginbotham, Inter Transition Consulting Group  (Sessions: B, C) Note:  These sessions are full; please select a different workshop. 

 

(19) Massage:  Enjoy the benefits of a mini massage!  Facilitators:  Massage Therapists from the Massage Therapy Association of Nova Scotia (Sessions:  B, C)  Note:  This session is full; please select a different workshop.
