Blair T Goldrup Memorial Scholarship

This year Local 80820 will offer one scholarship for $500.00.  Called the Blair T. Goldrup Memorial Scholarship, it is a means of recognising the devotion and time spent by the Component's members in servicing the Local.

ELIGIBILITY:

This $500.00 Scholarship is offered to the sons and daughters of Local 80820 members in good standing, as of June 30th of the calendar year in which they enter their first year of university, college, community college or other institute of higher learning. Sons and daughters of deceased or retired members of indeterminate status, or indeed of any former (indeterminate) members who have had at least 10 years of service, may also be considered. Preference will be given to first-year students who qualify; however, second or subsequent-year students may be considered, if there is no qualified first-year student.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Applicants who are first-year students must have an average of 80% or greater in the required subjects necessary for entrance to the faculty of higher training which they have chosen. Second and subsequent-year students must carry a "B" average or better on their previous year's courses.

  • Applicants must plan to attend a university or a recognized institute of higher education for the following academic year, and provide proof of registration.


ADDITIONAL NOTES:

1. The Local 80820 Selection Committee reserves the right to withhold the Scholarship if no applicant is deemed to possess the necessary requirements, or for other valid reasons.

2. Applicants must enclose the following:

  • A completed Application for Scholarship.
  • A full high school transcript, including final marks. (Second and subsequent-year students must also enclose their latest university transcript.)
  • A reference letter or statement from a teacher with whom they have been associated during their last year of high school or last year at a recognized educational institution if already enrolled in university, etc. (See Academic Statement.)
  • A statement of educational and career plans. (See College Program and Career Plans.)
  • Proof of Registration at an accepted post-secondary institution.

3. All of the above must be submitted to:

The application for the Local 80820 Scholarship Selection Committee must be received no later than July 31..

4.  Selection will be made on the basis of scholastic achievement and recommendation.
